John arrived in New York,on the ship Potsdam,out of Rotterdam on April 11,1905.He was listed as Jan Vlaar,and was traveling to Idaho to visit his cousin Zeger Davidson.
It's not known when he went into Canada.
John Vlaar married Mina Roos in Alberta,Canada.They had three daughters born in Medicine Hat,Alberta,before coming to the United States in April of 1924. They settled in Coupeville,Washington,Mina's parents also settled on the Island.Mina worked while their daughters attended school.John traveled extensively to Alaska. John and Mina were divorced in 1934.
He later remarried in Alaska,and had a stepdaughter,Bertha Vlaar.
