Andrew "Andy" Caras
1927 - 2015
VETERAN

Early Life: Andy was born on October 24, 1927, in Benjamin, Utah, to a Greek immigrant, Angel and Mary Sorenson Caras. Their original family name was Kyreakos, it was changed to Caras at Ellis Island when his father came to the United States in 1912.
Life's Work | Service | Interests: Andy served his country at the end of World War II, served a faithful mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Southern States Mission, worked at the Union Pacific Railroad for almost 30 years, and was the Water Master in Benjamin; yet these things do not define who Andy was. Those were just things that he did. He was more concerned with his character, honesty and doing right. Andy was a kind, loving, tough as nails cowboy. He loved people, but preferred to sit quietly and watch them from the side. He was never the center of the party, but was so open and willing to have quiet conversations. He was happiest in his Church callings, digging in his garden, or helping his brother with sheep. At 85, he could outwork people half his age. Andy was at his best when he was working. Andy married his first wife, *Shirley Daley Caras, September 7, 1958, they were sealed in 1994, after Shirley's death. He was a doting, loving husband and father that believed in living a simple, dignified life. He later remarried and loved his wife, Chris. He served her until his final days. They were the perfect fit for each other, and they were truly each others' better half. In his 87 years, he lived an extraordinarily full life. Andy was more than a series of events and living a bucket list life. He was so much deeper and full of character than a list of events can describe. Faithful, strong and dignified, Andrew "Andy" Caras, went home to be with his Father in Heaven on Friday, February 6, 2015.
