Bettie's parents are Thomas Paxton, Jr. and Jane Crawford. She was born in Marsh Creek, York County (today it is Adams County near Gettysburg). Her father moved to Washington County about 1794. The Paxton family moved on to Mercer by 1810. She married Henry Hosack in 1812.
