Dr. Clarence Hemingway was born and died in Oak Park, Illinois. He graduated from Oak Park H.S. in 1890, from Oberlin College in 1893, from Rush Medical College in Chicago as a general practitioner. He later attended New York Laying-In Hospital in Obstetrics in 1908; he invented the Spinal Forceps. On October 1,1896, he married Grace Hall, and they had six children. His love of hunting and fishing was passed to his son Ernest Hemingway. When Ernest was young, Clarence would bring him to this cemetery to see the Black Angel Monument which marked the grave of the Haymarket Square anarchists' grave. He became diabetic and ill with angina pectoris when he was 57,and died from self-inflicted pistol wounds.
