George Niemeir, 87, died March 23, 2008, in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born January 25, 1921, in Fort Scott, Kansas, the son of Charles and Pearl Niemeir in a family of ten brothers and sisters.

A longtime resident of Hutchinson, Kansas, he was a United States Postal Service letter carrier and retired from the Postal Service in Hutchinson before moving to Phoenix, Arizona. A veteran of World War II, he received the Purple Heart after being wounded in Germany. He belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Phoenix, and was a member of Park Place Christian Church, Hutchinson, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by wives Helen Niemeir, Marjorie Lavendoski Niemeir and Nancy Arnesman Niemeir.

Survivors include: three sons and their wives, Ray and Marla Niemeir, Phoenix, Arizona, Thomas and Nancy Niemeir, Tucson, Arizona, and Frank and Kathi Niemeir, Woodstock, Georgia, sisters Evelyn Marr, Marie Haas, Lois Hixon, Juanita Harbor, brother Glen Niemeir, and five grandchildren, three stepdaughters, three stepsons, and many step-grandchildren.

Viewing at 9 am and memorial service at 10 am Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2939 W Rose Garden Lane, Phoenix, Arizona.

Graveside service will be 11 am, Thursday, April 3, 2008, Deerfield Cemetery, Deerfield, Missouri. Memorials may be sent to a charity of your choice.

George Raymond Niemeir, age 87, resident of Phoenix, Arizona died Sunday, March 23, 2008 in Phoenix, Arizona.

He was born January 25, 1921 in Fort Scott, Kansas, the son of Charles and Pearl Niemeir, to a family of ten brothers and sisters.

He was a veteran of World War II where he received the Purple Heart after being wounded in Germany.

He was a longtime resident of Hutchinson, Kansas. He was a United States Postal Service letter carrier and retired from the Postal Service in Hutchinson before moving to Phoenix.

Survivors include three sons and their wives, Ray and Marla Niemeir, Phoenix, Arizona, Thomas and Nancy Niemeir, Tucson, Arizona, and Frank and Kathi Niemeir, Woodstock, Georgia; four sisters, Evelyn Marr, Marie Haas, Lois Hixon, Juanita Harbor; one brother, Glen Niemeir, Fort Scott, Kansas; five grandchildren; three stepdaughters; three stepsons; and many step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by wives Helen Niemeir, Marjorie (Lavendoske) Niemeir, and Nancy (Arnseman) Niemeir.

Funeral services will be held in Phoenix. Graveside services will be April 3, 2008, in Deerfield Cemetery, Deerfield, Missouri, under the direction of Cheney Witt Chapel of Fort Scott, Kansas.
