Shreveport, LA. - Funeral services for Jimmy Caruthers Burroughs, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 2, 2014, at Ellerbe Baptist Church, 10705 Ellerbe Road, Shreveport, LA. Officiating will be Rev. Dennis Sims. Interment will follow in Forest Park East Cemetery, St. Vincent Ave., Shreveport, LA. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church.

Jimmie was born on August 9, 1921, to James Morris and Lillie Mae Montgomery Caruthers, and went to join our Heavenly Father on December 26, 2014 at the age of ninety three. A good Christian woman, Christmas was always a special time for her. The many years she created a warm and welcoming time and place in our home filled with reminders of the reason for the season, colorful decorations, wonderful meals, fresh cooked candy and cookies, music, laughter, and lots of love will remain precious memories to all whose lives she touched.

Born in Prescott, AR, she graduated high school at the top of her class, where she was a cheerleader and class favorite. In 1939, at the age of eighteen, she married William Roy Lee Burroughs (Bill), beginning a life full of love and sharing that lasted sixty-one years until his death in 2001. Soon after the birth of their first son James, they moved to Shreveport, LA, to follow Bill's career as a CPA and hers as a talented homemaker, creating a caring and comfortable home full of love, opportunity, and Christian motivation and example for their four children, James, Raymond, Linda, and Roy.

Five foot two with eyes so blue they rivaled the heavens on a beautiful spring day, Jimmie was an energetic, intelligent, sentimental, highly creative and beautiful woman, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and beloved friend to all who had the privilege to get to know her. Extremely well read, a great cook and homemaker, she enjoyed working crossword puzzles, playing Bridge, knitting and sewing, and spending time with her many friends, especially her Sunday school classmates at Broadmoor Baptist Church. After her family and the times she enjoyed with them her greatest love was to travel, sharing many wonderful trips abroad with her husband Bill.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son James William Burroughs, and her daughter, Linda Gail Burroughs Tyrone. She is survived by her sons, Raymond Lee Burroughs and his wife Pat, and John Roy Burroughs and his wife Jackie; grandchildren, Julie Ann Burroughs Overton and husband Robert, Steven Craig Burroughs and wife Rachel, Amy Marie Burroughs, Ramona Diane Burroughs and husband Kevin, Robert O'Neil Burroughs and wife Katrina, Karen Tyrone Risenhoover and husband John Timothy, Lisa Tyrone Hoppe and husband Bryan, Christopher Shea and John Kyle Burroughs; great- grandchildren, Olivia Burroughs, Joshua and Daniel Overton, John, Nicole, and Danielle Burroughs, Caroline and William Risenhoover, Megan and Katherine Hoppe, and Zoe Beth Burroughs.
