Germaine (Gerry) Gray Nichols passed away peacefully and with family on Friday morning, December 12, 2014, in Bremerton, Washington. Gerry was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother with a warm smile, loving and generous nature, and a wicked sense of humor. She was born Germaine Gray on April 26, 1925 in Jamestown, North Dakota. She married Archie F. Nichols on November 6, 1943 in Long Beach, California. They lived most of their married life in Bremerton, Washington, where they raised their four children: Charmaine (Charlie), Randal, David and Greg.
Gerry was preceded in death by her husband, Archie, and their daughter, Charlie Nichols Rudolph. She is survived by her sons, Randal, David and Greg, along with David's wife, CJ, and Greg's wife, Val. She had seven grandchildren: Shauna Rudolph Abbenhaus and John Rudolph (Charlie and Fred Rudolph's children); Mike Bates, Beth Bates and Shenna Denney (David and CJ' children); and Zoe and Lily Nichols (Greg and Val's children). She also had eight great-grandchildren: Edith Abbenhaus, Kai Rudolph, Ty and Kira Bates, Kris Beham and Jamison Jaqua, and Emma and Jimmy Denney.
Gerry will be remembered for her love of family, old movies, music and square dancing. More importantly, she will be remembered as a kind and gentle soul, accepting of all and opening her home to anyone who needed shelter or just some kindness. She has been laid to rest at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Bremerton, and a memorial will be held in her honor on January 17, 2015 at 2 pm at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Bremerton.
As I watch, a voice beside me says, "There she goes." Unseen are those gathered on the other side who raise the joyous shout, "Here she comes!"
