Professional Football Player. He attended Robert E. Lee High School in Arkansas and played collegiate football at the University of Mississippi. Under the guidance of Hall of Fame coach Johnny Vaught, he contributed to a Gator Bowl victory, two Sugar Bowl titles and a National Championship (1959). Individually, Flowers received consensus All-American honors. Selected by the New York Giants during the 12th round of the 1959 NFL Draft, he ended up with the Los Angeles Chargers of the newly-formed American Football League and had the distinction of being on their inaugural roster. He totaled three seasons (1960 to 1962) with the Los Angeles/San Diego Chargers and New York Titans. He played in 28 games before suffering a career-ending knee injury. After retiring from football, he settled in the Atlanta-area and established a business as a stockbroker. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1997. Additionally, he is a member of the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame, Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame and the Ole Miss Sports Hall of Fame.
