Arbizena Jackson was born in Panola County Mississippi, the daughter of William and Amanda Jackson. The family moved to Arkansas when Arbizena was a young girl and she married about 1868 to John A. Sparks. The Jackson and Sparks family removed to Montague County Texas in the late 1860s.

In the early 1870s, possibly as early as 1872 Arbizena and her family settled near Courtney Flats in the Chickasaw Nation across the Red River from Spanish Fort,TX.

Arbizena married 2nd to Jack Carlton. She had a daughter Minnie Lee Carlton born at Courtney Feb 8, 1880. Arbizena died 3 days later on Feb 11th most likely from complications from the birth. She is buried in the Bourland Cem to the north of John Sparks grave. The stone is broken and barely legible.
