Betsy was a lifetime academic, earning her BA from Colorado College, a Fulbright scholarship to Salzburg, Austria, and MAT from Yale. She went on to be an English teacher for nine years.
She married Stan Black in 1971 and taught English in Oregon and Virginia before returning to Colorado and continuing at Thornton High.
Full-time motherhood started in 1978 with the birth of their daughter followed soon by their son in 1980. She continued to teach on a part-time basis and also managed her husband's optometry practice.
She enjoyed time with her family at their second homes in Silverthorne, CO and Fenelon Falls, ON.
Betsy was an enthusiastic environmentalist and grammarian and was best known for being able to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
A celebration of life was held on Saturday, November 8, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at the Museum of Boulder, 2205 Broadway, Boulder, CO 80302.
