Lieutenant Walter John Batchelor was a twin to Mary Victoria BATCHELOR HARRIS. He was a distinguished Officer with The Canadian Grenadier Guards.

Prior to WW1 he served in the Canadian military with the 1st Regiment, Grenadier Guards of Canada and was the 2nd soldier to enlist in 1915 to serve with the 87th Battalion (Canadian Grenadier Guards), CEF along with his future brother-in-law, Cyril Earle HARRIS. In his time overseas he was promoted to Sergeant and commissioned in the rank of Lieutenant. On 28 October 1918 he was admitted to the 20 General Hospital in Camiers as dangerously ill. He died the next day of pneumonia as a result of influenza. He is buried in France.
