Dalton "Cappy" Hord was born to Eugene Isador Hord (1843-1922) and Victoria Martin Hord (1843-1871) in Shelbyville, Illinois on June 22,1867. His brother William (Willie) became ill and died on March 2,1871 at the age of two. His mother died seven days later. Afterward, Eugene and Dalton moved to Marion, Ohio. There, Eugene married his second wife, Onnorie Ellen Baer, on February 25, 1873. Together, they had four children, viz.; Arthur P Hord (1874-1923), Georgia Hord (1879-1903), Josephine Hord (1879- 1956) and Mary O Hord Schwartz (1875- ). Georgia and Josephine were twins.

In 1881, Dalton's parents moved the family to Buck Township, Hardin, Ohio. On March 10, 1890, Dalton married Augusta J Myers in Buck Township, Hardin, Ohio. Together they had two children, viz.; Myrtle Hord Hanville (1891-1927), Ray Eugene Hord (1896-1943). Eventually, Dalton and Augusta, who were well known in Kenton, made their home at 315 West Lynn Street. He made his living as a well driller and trucker and for several years was in the garage business there.

Dalton had many friends. He was a type of person who made friends easily and one who did many acts of kindness during his lifetime. He was a genial type person and a good substantial citizen. For a number of years he was a Justice of the Peace of Buck Township and also a member of the Epworth Methodist Church.

Dalton's wife Augusta, who was born on March 26,1866, predeceased him on September 22, 1940. At the age of 77, Dalton expired on January 26,1945. The Reverend B.H. Wibbeler, pastor of the Epworth Methodist Church, presided over the funeral services which were held at the Schindewolf funeral home; Dalton was buried next to his wife in the Grove Cemetery.
