Actress. Her father served as a chaplain in United States Navy, she relocated frequently with her family throughout the country, prior to settling in Northern California. During her high school years, she found an interest in performing and received a Drama scholarship to attend Max Reinhardt's school. She appeared in the short-lived Broadway production "Sons and Soldiers" (1943), which was noted for her co-stars which included Gregory Peck, Stella Adler, Geraldine Fitzgerald and Karl Malden. Her film career was initiated with a string of minor parts in several Warner Brothers films, among them "Yankee Doodle Dandy" (1942). This led to more substantial roles after signing with RKO Radio Pictures, including co-starring with John Wayne in "Tall in the Saddle" (1944). She retired from Hollywood in 1952 after totaling more than thirty film credits. She was married to author Leslie Charteris (best known for penning "The Saint") from 1952 until his death in 1993.
