Old Pioneer is Laid to Rest. The Funeral of Matts Matson, Sr. was
Held Saturday.
Mr. Matson, born in Sweden a highly respected citizen who resided
for many years on his homestead seven miles north of here, passed
away at the home of his son John, last Thursday, after being ill
for some time. Cause of death was old age. Mr. Matson, born in
Mora, Sweden, 85 years ago. He came to America, locating in Omaha,
in 1865. In 1870 he came to this county taking the homestead that
was his home the rest of his life. He was the father of eight
children, only two of whom are living. They are John and Matts, jr.
who with the aged widow and five grandchildren and 6 great
grandchildren, and a host of friends mourn his departure. The
funeral was held from the home of his son John Saturday at 1
o'clock, and was conducted by Rev. Erlander of the Baptist church,
at Oakland. Interment in the Baptist cemetery. The pallbearers were
Messrs. N. Martenson, Matts Anderson, Swan Strand, Andrew Bowman,
Peter Larson and Lars Peterson. The bereaved ones have the
heartfelt sympathy of their many friends in their bereavement.
