He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. After serving in the military, he worked for 20 years on the USS Cristobal, a maritime ship which sailed from New York City and New Orleans to the Panama Canal Zone. After retiring, he worked as a longshoreman at Local 300 in New Orleans. Rafael was also a Charter member of the Westbank BPOE Elks Lodge #2496 where he served as Exalted Ruler and District Deputy in the 1970's.
Mass of Christian Burial was on on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the Westside Leitz Eagan Funeral Home Chapel, 5101 Westbank Expressway, Marrero.
