Carl loved to garden. Every year in the back of his Taylorville home he had a very large beautiful garden for which he spent many hours caring. Another passion of Carl was fishing which he spent many hours doing especially in Arkansas where he and his wife retired.
When Dorothy became ill, she and Carl moved to Wisconsin where they were cared for by their daughter Carolyn and her husband, Don, and their granddaughter, Christine. Sometime later, Carl became ill and had to be cared for in a local nursing home. Dorothy wanted to be near him so she too was admitted to the same nursing home. When they died they were moved to Taylorville and buried in the Oak Hill Cemetery.
