Martin Walker, 75, of Rice Lake died Jan. 28 at St. Joseph Hospital in Marshfield. Funeral services were Thursday at 11 a.m. at Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, with the Rev. James Powers officiating and interment at St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation was at the funeral home Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. and Thursday for 1 hour before the service.
Mr. Walker was born Aug. 21, 1930 to Benjamin and Theresa (Muehlenberg) Walker at Rice Lake. He attended Rice Lake school, graduated from high school in 1948 and then attended the UW-Madison until his father’s death. He was later drafted into the Army and served with the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg, N.C. Mr. Walker later returned to Rice Lake and was a carpenter for Secore Construction, Vonasek & Schieffer and Market & Johnson. He was an avid sports enthusiast and had played basketball and baseball in high school and after his military service played baseball with Pecks Bad Boys in Campia and later with the Brill Millers.
He is survived by two sons, Benny of Rice Lake and Randy of Morton, Ill.; two daughters, Tammy Cimfl of Cumberland and Janelle Walker of Rice Lake; four grandchildren; a brother, Matson of Rice Lake; and a close companion, Pat Schieffer.
Mr. Walker’s wife, Mona, preceded him in death.
