Mrs. McCorristin Found Dead in Chair When Husband Returns

A Union Lake woman took her own life early last night by shooting herself in the stomach while seated in a chair in the living room of her home. The victim was identified as Mrs. Bessie McCorristin, wife of Cyril McCorristin, Park Road, Union Lake. She was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Millville Hospital.
Police said that they received a telephone message from the hospital at 8:20 o'clock last night requesting a police escort to the head of Union Lake where a woman was reported to have been shot. Mrs. McCorristin was placed in the ambulance but was dead upon arrival at the hospital. Coroner Jean Griner Shannon conducted an investigation and released the body to the Christy Funeral Home.
According to police Mr. McCorristin had been in Millville shopping and was accompanied home by several relatives. When they entered the house they saw Mrs. McCorristin in a chair apparently asleep. When they were unable to arouse her they investigated and saw blood on her dress. The hospital was immediately notified.
Police said that Mrs. McCorristin left a note addressed to her husband stating "I still love you." It was signed "Bess."
A 32-calibre revolver was found alongside the chair, police said. One bullet had been fired and two remained in the chamber. The bullet entered her stomach and went through her left kidney the coroner reported.
The deceased was employed as a weaver at the Millville Manufacturing Company.
Surviving are her husband, Cyril, her parents, Mr. & Mrs. John Beebe; four sisters, Mrs. Ethel Stanger, Mrs. Iva Gross, Mrs. Thelma Leslie and Mrs. Florence McDowell; and one brother, Jack Beebe, all of Millville.
Funeral service will be held from the Christy Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock with interment in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
