Elroy Butler, age 81, of Rotan, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Nolan Nursing and Rehab Center in Sweetwater.


Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at the Bronte Church of Christ in Bronte, Texas with John Driggers officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Monday, July 21, 2014 at the funeral home.


He was born September 5, 1932 in Junction, Texas.


Elroy graduated from high school and joined the United States Air Force, serving in the Korean Conflict.


He married Margie Lindy in February of 1956 in Haughton, Louisiana.


He lived in the area since 1956, including Sterling City and Bronte recently moving from College Station to Rotan.


He was a consignee for Gulf Oil Company, operating Butler Oil Company from 1961 until 1991.


He is a member of the Church of Christ and past member of the Elk's Lodge, Lions Club and Jaycees.


He is survived by his wife of 58 years Margie Butler of Rotan, son Donald Butler and Fran of Bronte, Lindy Robinson and husband Robbie of Rotan, Donna Bredemeyer and husband Rodrick of Winters, nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Maxine Butler of Conroe, Sue Butler of Cleburne, Mary Weaver of Haughton, Louisiana and a brother-in-law Freddy Lindy and wife Barbara of Glenwood, Arkansas.


He is preceded in death by his parents Jim and Bertha (Hibdon) Butler, twin brother LeRoy Butler, brothers Norman, Delmon and Jim Butler, JR and a sister Ella Mae Gamble.


Pallbearers will be his grandsons Brandon Roach, Lorne Roach, Jon Roach, Lyndon Butler, Mitchell Butler, Jantzen Robinson and Jaxson Robinson.


Honorary pallbearers are his granddaughters Lindsey Kemper and husband Kelby and Valene Powell and husband Daniel and Kristi Butler.
