Great-grandfather of Lila Dowd Powell, great-great grandfather of Dianne Powell Hare, great-great-great grandfather of Kimberly Hare Beeson, great-great-great-great grandfather of Lydia Fee and Addisyn Fee.

His obituary follows:

Little Mountain. January 25, Today marks the death of Jacob Shealy, the oldest Confederate veteran in Newberry County and perhaps the oldest in the State. Mr. Shealy had lived a little more than 98 years and passed away from the infirmities of age at the home of his son, Luther W. Shealy. Up to a few years ago, he was able to walk for miles, ride horseback and attend to his farm duties.
His wife, who was Miss Catherine Bowers, lived to be 90 years old and died only four years ago. They were married 72 years. Two of their sons preceded them to the grave and there survive three sons, 35 grandchildren, 83 great grandchildren and seven great, great grandchildren.
Mr. Shealy was a gallant soldier in the War between the States, serving with Company F. Major White’s battalion, Palmetto Light Infantry. His two eldest sons were also in the war. Ten of his grandsons are in the army today, six being overseas.
Mr. Shealy united with St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Newberry County when a boy, but became a charter member of Mount Tabor Lutheran Church, Little Mountain, of which he had not only been a loyal supporter but an officer since it was founded.
The funeral services were conducted this afternoon at Mount Tabor Church by the pastor, the Rev. J.B. Harmon, and interment followed in the church year.
