Former prizefighter and father of the legendary Mae West.

Jack became a "special policeman" after his fighting career, and eventually had his own private investigations agency. Jack's mother was an Irish Catholic. His father was an English ship's rigger, of Scots derivation.Jack's father was John Edwin West, after whom his son is named. That is why he is JE II, not "Jr." John was named for his paternal grandfather, who was a British ship's rigger of Scottish extraction.
