Margaret Capps Bowen, 91, died at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center.
She was born a daughter of the late Andrew Franklin Capps and Bessie Tart Capps. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernice Elmo Bowen, a son, Bernice Bowen Jr., a grandson, Christopher Brent Bowen and a great-grandson, Michael D. Coleman II.
Mrs. Bowen was a life-long member of Seagate Baptist Church and a member of the Sunday School Class. She was a past recipient of the Daughter of the Year Award from the Daughter’s of America. Mrs. Bowen was a mascot for New Hanover High School Class of 1951. She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club and a proud member of the Happy Hens Club. She had been employed with the Pepsi-Cola Company, Nabisco Bread Company, and Bradley Creek School.
Surviving are three children, Dixie Coleman, Gayle Spivey and husband Butch, and Phillip Bowen, all of Wilmington; grandchildren, Michael Coleman and wife Karen, Pam Peterson, Byron Spivey and Phillys “Beau” Bowen; great-grandchildren, Brecka Coleman, John “Will” Peterson IV and Carter Miller; and special nieces, Joann Summerlin, Fran Summerlin; and special nephew, Herman Summerlin Jr.
Mrs. Bowen was one who never met a stranger. She will be dearly missed by her loving family and the many friends whose lives she touched along her way. She brought a comforting and uplifting light into the hearts of everyone that knew her.
