Opal was born January 12, 1900 in Rockwood, the daughter of William H. and Flora Kent Spinner. In addition to her parents, four sisters and three brothers preceded her in death.

She married Frank Kessel on December 20, 1922 at Murphysboro. He preceded her in death on June 4, 1982. Opal was the mother of Mrs. Joan Saul of Ballwin, Missouri and Mrs. Linda Crain of Mehlville, Missouri.

Opal Kessel was a homemaker. She was a member of the Elm Street Baptist Church in Murphysboro and the Electra and Ruth Chapter 379 Order of the Eastern Star.

Mrs. Kessel died at the age of 88 in Del Mar Gardens South Nursing Home in St. Louis.
