Departed
Mrs. Selina Hinshaw Green was born November 12, 1819, in Randolph county, North Carolina. At the age of ten, with her parents, Ezra and Phebe Hinshaw, she removed to Ohio, where she lived two years. In 1831 she moved to Cass Co., Michigan, where she has since resided. She was married to Geo. Green February 17, 1842. Eight children were born to them, five of whom; Mrs. Esther Lynch, Mr. Elam Green, Mrs. Emma Hollister, Mrs. Ellen Reese, and Mrs. Elizabeth Templeton with their father and eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren live to mourn their loss.
Mrs. Green was a member of the Church of Christ of Vandalia, Michigan, was a good and faithful Christian always trying to do right. No more fitting comment on the influence of her life can be stated than to say that all her children are Christians and nearly all of her grandchildren.
Mrs. Green died at eight o'clock in the evening on the first of February 1896. She was 76 years old, 2 months and 19 days. The funeral was held in the Church of Christ in Vandalia and she was buried by the side of her children in the Bethel burying ground.
Carnations and roses were laid upon her coffin in loving remembrance.
"Another hand is beckoning us;
Another call is given;
And glows once more with Angel steps
The path which reaches heaven.
We miss her in the place of prayer,
And by the hearth fire's light;
We pause beside her door to hear
Once more her sweet 'Good night'
Fold her, O Father, in thine arms,
And let her henceforth be
A messenger of love between
Our human hearts and thee."
