In Memoriam. Sunday, May 13th, a funeral sermon was preached by Reverend William McPeek, at the Beaver Baptist Church, in memory of George Gregg, from Hebrews the fourth chapter and ninth verse. “There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.” The deceased was born in Taylor County, West Virginia, June 24th 1803, died September 12th, 1882. He was one of the pioneer settlers of Beaver Township, coming in 1829; entered a piece of land 3½ miles south of Batesville. There he and his companion lived until her death in 1877. In one year after her death he broke up housekeeping and lived with his son Isaac. They had eight children, six yet living; four in Ohio, two in Gentry County, Missouri. He was a member of the Bible Christian Church for 40 years. His motto was to live in peace with all men. He was always willing and ready to help any church of God.
We will miss the, sadly miss thee,
Here we’ll see thee not again;
Though we love thee, dearly love thee,
Thou has crossed the silent main.
We shall hear thy footsteps never,
In this lonely home of ours
Thou hast gone to live forever
Where thy pathway’s strewed with flowers.

George Gregg's memorial is a work-in-progress, with more details to come. While most sources show Mr. Gregg's birthplace as Tyler County, it is shown in his obituary as Taylor County; we hope to reconcile this in the future. Further additions and corrections are always welcome; if you would like to add details to his memorial please let us know.
