Margarett Sprattling departed this world for her next adventure on June 25, 2011. She was 90. A memorial tea was held Sept. 28.

Born in Muskatine, Iowa, on Aug. 9, 1920, to Frederick and Mary (Carpenter) Scherff, Margarett grew up with her three sisters, including her twin, Ruth. Her first husband, Delbert Fredrickson, died in World War II.

Margarett married Willis Sprattling Jr. in 1947, and eventually moved to California where they raised three children. Later they moved to Rochester N.Y., becoming quite involved in community work. After Willis died, Margarett moved to Nevada City in 2004 to live with family.

She was devoted to the Baha'i faith and its principles. A lover of the arts, she was a portrait photographer and painter, taking up the brush again at age 84. She became the tea leaf reader at Gold Mountain in Nevada City, made many friends and was very happy in her new surroundings. Her belief in the essential goodness of people affected many souls during her 90 years.

Margarett is survived by her daughters, Garreta Kipp and Rene Sprattling Mathies; son, Rod Sprattling; three grandchildren, Theresa, Natasha and Daven; and two great-grandchildren.
