WRIGHT, JOHN — Age, 39 years. Enlisted, May 22, 1861, at Troy [NY], to serve two years; mustered in as musician, Co. C [22nd NY Volunteer Infantry], June 6, 1861; promoted fife major, same date; transferred as musician to [regimental] band, date not stated ; discharged, August 15,1862, by act of Congress [disbanding regimental bands].

I was able to find a John Wright in the Civil war records; Company E, 22 Reg. NYI was the a cavalry 22nd Regiment. he was listed as going in as a corporal and discharged as a First Sergeant. here is the history of the 22nd Cavalry Regiment feel free to use any of this on John:
