Mrs Ruth Boutwell, 76, of 28 Harding St., widow of Edward C Boutwell, died last night in Pittsfield General Hospital.
Born in Cobleskill, NY, the daughter of Stanton and Libby Waterman Esmay, she had lived in Pitsfield for about 55 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, its Dorcas class and the Margaret Allen Chapter of the Woman's Leaue. Her first husband, Morell A Starkweather, died in 1918. In 1921, she married Mr Boutwell who died in 1951. A GE man, he served as chairman of the City Licensing Board and ran for mayor in 1941.
She leaves two daughters, Mrs Edwin H Purnell of Pittsfield and Mrs John C Irwin of Colorado Springs, CO; three step daughters, Mrs Wilbert Hamilton of Pittsfield, Mrs J Wendell Butler of Richmond, and Mrs Edward Depew of Tarrytown, NY; and two grandchildren.
Services will be Sunday at 1 at the Wellington Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Rural Cemetery in Cobleskill.
Friends may call at the funeral home tonigh from 7 to 9 and tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.
