David Ricardo (born April 18, 1772 London, died September 11, 1823, Gatcombe Park, Gloucestershire), a British political economist, descendant of Portugese sephards. He is often credited with systematizing economics, and was one of the most influential of the classical economists. He was also a successful businessman and financier. His principal oeuvre, "On the Principles of Political Economy and Taxation", explains the theory of comparative advantages, proving the benefit of free trade between nations.
