Living from Middlesex County, Massachusetts to Middlesex County, Connecticut!

Uncle Peter De Mallie had his office in the Empire State Building, also in the World Trade Building Tower NYC, NY when a planes struck both. he was so lucky as each time of the three times he was not in his offices! Luck of the Flandarians it is called! I used to walk everyday through the WTC getting off the E Train ( Subway) from Midtown to get to my office on Broadway at Wall Street.

He was/ is loved ! God bless him, them, and all who may view him here too.

Old Saybrook - Peter DeMallie, 85, of Old Saybrook, beloved husband of Miriam (Runels) DeMallie, died suddenly Monday, October 31, 2005.

Peter was an affable, loving, and kind man who brought joy to many with his humor and love of life. He was particularly proud of his family and friends, loved Broadway musicals and was an avid golfer.

He was born August 14, 1920 in Lowell, Middlesex County Massachusetts, to the late Madeline Potter and Isaac DeMallie. He was one of six children, including brothers, John of Simsbury and Stephen of Bloomfield, N.J. He was predeceased by his sister, Cynthia Wadman and brothers, William and Campbell,Sr..

Peter was an avid Golfer. Seems he was born on the links..

He was survived by his loving wife, with whom he would have celebrated 62 years of marriage on December 18th; three daughters and their husbands, Lynne and David Hortenstine of Brookfield, Mo., Pamela and Robert Wehmueller of St. Louis, Mo., Kristen and Gregory Allemann of Austin, Texas and two sons and their wives, Peter and Anne De Mallie, and Robert and Hildegard De Mallie, all of South Windsor. He was blessed with a dozen adoring grandchildren, Alexander, Andrew and Brittany Allemann, Erin, Kirsten, Meredith and Peter De Mallie, John and Paul Hortenstine, Matthew Horton Kimberly Heffner and Megin Wolfman.

Peter received a bachelors of science degree in textile chemistry in 1943 from the University of Massachusetts-Lowell (UML) (where he was captain of the golf team and social director of his fraternity) and received a graduate diploma in aerological engineering in 1944 from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

He was a US naval officer in World War II and was recalled in the Korean War, in both instances serving as a meteorologist. He was known to be very accurate in his predictions. Family members often consulted him on the weather, noting that he could make more accurate predictions by looking at cloud formations than the National Weather Service using super computer models. He began his career as a marketing representative in (DD :NYSE) DuPont's Textile Fibers Department in Wilmington, Del., where he helped advance man made fibers. He joined Sportswear Hosiery, Inc. of New York City, N.Y., as a Vice-President and later founded Yarn Sales Corporation of Westport, Ct..

An avid golfer, Peter played very often, made many good friends doing so, had an excellent short game, and had four holes-in-one, including two on the same hole. He served on the boards of the Patterson Country Club of Fairfield, Black Hall Country Club of Old Lyme, and Old Lyme Affordable Housing Corporation. Peter lived for 24 years in Westport, retired to Old Lyme in 1986, and moved to Old Saybrook in 1999.
