HARRISBURG.
Correspondence of The Courier:
Mrs Elizabeth Kerr Tingley, consort of the late Dr. Uriah B. Tingley died on the 25th inst, after an illness of three weeks of fatty degeneration of heart. Both she and the late hueband who for 80 many years lived concordantly at this place need but little eulog. Their unbounded popularity, broad acquaintance love and respect was exemplified at the funeral services Sunday afternoon when one of the largest crowds ever witnessed at the beautiful Lick Creek cemetery assembled. Besides the good, christian, charitable name she leaves a host of friends, one son and three daughters to mourn her untimely loss. In the sad bereavement it is a solace to know that her spirit has returned to Him who gave it. So long as she was physically able she visited the sick, was a kind neighbor and no one ever asked benevolence at her hand and went away unsupplied. Her funeral was preachcd by Rev. Wines of Glenwood, who so beautifully and eloquently told the story of her pure and upright life that it leaves but little for us to record. The prince of funeral directors, Carl Smith, embalmed and placed the remains in a beautiful casket and laid them by the side of her husband. The pall bearers were Lewis Powell, Ed Hackleman, Probasco Thomas, Gabriel Powell, George Manlove, B. J. Thomas, Erastus Robinson and Ambrose Williams. People from several different counties attended the Funeral. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of the community and the family gratefully thank the many friends who showed so much kindness and rendered assistance.
