Alternate information:
Charles Andrew Cook, b. 22 Mar 1893, E. St. Louis, St. Clair Co., Illinois d. 24 Mar 1953, Wayne Co., Michigan.

Charles J. Cook, the subject of this memorial page, was actually born, Charles Andrew Cook on 22 Mar 1893, in E. St. Louis, St. Clair Co., Illinois. It would be easy to dismiss that Charles J. and Charles Andrew were two different people that just happened to be born on the same day in the same month and that proof of their separate identities lies in the birth year and middle name. This would be a mistake because Charles J. and Charles Andrew are in fact, the same person.
To outline the evidence, Charles Andrew Cook was born, 22 Mar 1893, to Thomas Jefferson and Emma Rose McGowan COOK, in E. St. Louis, St. Clair Co., Illinois. There is a birth certificate for this birth on Familysearch.org.
The 1900 census record for the Cook family in St. Louis, Missouri, also reflects his month of birth as March and the year of his birth as 1893. In the 1910 census record for the Cook family, reflects his age to be 17 at the time of the census in May of 1910. This would give his birth year as 1893. The 1910 census is the last known document to show his birth year as 1893.
On June 5, 1917 a WWI draft registration was filled out for Charles J. Cook, born 22 Mar 1890 (though his age is listed as 28, suggesting the birth year to be 1889). He is living in Missouri with his mother and father (not named) and his place of birth is listed as Kentucky. On Feb. 8, 1919, Charles Cook sends a postcard to his sister Anna May Cook giving his whereabouts in the war and that he is with Co. F, 349th Inf. Again, it would be easy to dismiss that these are two different people. May's brother is in the war and the registration is no guarantee Charles J. Cook was in the war. However, on Ancestry.com, there is a record for a Military Headstone Application for, Charles J. Cook, applied for by his wife, Stella in Detroit, Michigan. On that application, it gives his birth date as Mar. 22, 1889 and place of birth is noted as Kentucky. Charles J. Cook's unit is listed as Co. F, 349th Inf., same as May's brother from the postcard. At this point it becomes harder to dismiss Charles J. and Charles Andrew as two separate people.
My final piece of evidence to pull together that Charles J. and Charles Andrew are one in the same is a Marriage License that can be found on Ancestry.com for Charles Cook and Stella (nee Aubuchon) Haley in Detroit, Wayne Co., Michigan on Nov. 7, 1927. Charles does not give his middle initial or middle name, however, his age is 38, consistent with other records that say 1889. The part that pulls it together with Charles Andrew Cook is that his parent names are listed as, Thomas and Emma McGowan Cook, the same parents listed on the birth certificate on Mar. 22, 1893 for Charles Andrew Cook.
If there is still any question about the idea of Charles J. and Charles Andrew being the same person, I would have to say that the coincidences of, 1) They both have a father named, Thomas 2) They both have a mother named Emma with the maiden name of McGowan, 3) They both have a wife named Stella 4) they both lived in Missouri 5) they both fought in the same unit during WWI and 6) they both wound up living in Detroit, is a particularly hard pill to swallow. If you are interested in the evidence I have laid out but do not have access to ancestry, please contact me and I would be happy to furnish the evidence
