James Blackstock, Sr., 96, passed away Feb. 16, 2014 in Murrells Inlet, S.C.

Mr. Blackstock was born in Akron and had resided in Cuyahoga Falls for 60 years, moving here from Cleveland. He retired from Garfield High School in 1979 as a mathematics teacher with over 30 years service and had served with the Army Air Corps. He was a life member of the American Legion Charles Faust Post 281.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia who he met his freshman year at Kent State University; brother, Richard Blackstock and sister, Jane Simpson; and is survived by his sons, James, Jr. (Sharon) of Jackson Twp., William of Orlando, Fla. and Robert (Renee) of N. Royalton; daughter, Mary Sue (Bobby) Tyner of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; grandchildren, Stefan (Denise) Blackstock, Bret (Laura) Blackstock, Kyle Blackstock, Cory Blackstock, Kimberly Dorsey, Kady (Brad) Turner, Derek (Dawn) Zitko, Zack Zitko, Tammy Tyner, and Tiffany Tyner; many great-grandchildren and sisters, Ruth Benson of Cleveland and Marge Shamleffer of Pittsburgh.

The Family will greet friends beginning at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20 in The Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls where a Funeral Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20. Interment Chestnut Hill Memorial Park. A Military Service will be conduct by American Legion Charles Faust Post 281. In lieu of other remembrances, memorials may be made to The March of Dimes in honor of Ryan Turner, 5425 Warner Rd. # 10, Cleveland, OH 44125.
