Educator/Lecturer/Author. Dr. Katherine Lederer, age 73, of Springfield, formerly of Trinity, Texas, passed away Thursday, Nov. 24, 2005, in her home. She was born March 19, 1932, in Trinity, Texas, and graduated from Trinity High School, as well as Sam Houston University and the University of Arkansas. She was an English Professor at SMSU and retired in August of 2004 after 42 years of service. She and Charles Lederer were united in marriage in Springfield, Mo., in 1960. She was a member of St. Agnes Church and the Tony Morrison Society. She was an accomplished woman whose honors and awards are too numerous to mention. She also loved to study African American History in Springfield. She was preceded in death by her father, Leon Gay; mother, Katherine Lipscomb Gay; first husband, William Thresto; and second husband, Charles Lederer. She is survived by one son, Tea Lederer and his wife, Deborah, of Springfield; one daughter, Susan Thresto of San Francisco; grandchildren, Cheyenne of Springfield, and Michelle, Samantha, Zachery and Christopher of Pennsylvania; two greatgrandchildren, Rhys and Natalie; and her close friend, Charlotte Hardin. Memorial services were held on Friday, Dec. 2, 2005, in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Internment will be April 6, 2005 at the Hazelwood Cemetery in Springfield. Donations may be made to the Katherine G. Lederer Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home.
