Lawrence E. (Slab Catron) Vanover, Sr., age 86 years, Whitley City, Kentucky died January 13, 2010 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, Somerset, Kentucky. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 16, 2010 at McCreary County Funeral Home with Bro. Harry Watters; Rev. Roscoe Spradlin and Bro. Doug Patrick officiating. Burial was in Vanover Cemetery. He was born at McCreary County, Kentucky on January 13, 1924 the son of the late Henry and Nova Catron Vanover. He was a retired logger and of the Baptist faith. His parents, his son, Jimmy Lee Vanover and his daughter, Geneva Henderson precede him in death. The deceased brothers are Cecil Perry; Calvine Catron and Junior Catron. Four grandchildren are deceased. Survivors include his children, Lawrence Vanover, Jr.; Robert Vanover and wife, Mary; Billy Joe Vanover; Peggy Ridener, Whitley City, Kentucky and Joyce Ann Keith, Nicholasville, Kentucky. Stepson, Arville Lee Hicks and wife, Geraldine, Parkers Lake, Kentucky, survive him. The surviving brother and sisters are Oscar Catron, Monticello, Kentucky; Mossie Brooks, Manchester, Kentucky and Julie Blankenship, Lexington, Kentucky. Sixteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild survive. McCreary County Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements.
