He was the son of George Harry Baldwin and his 1st wife, Anne Marguerite McEachron Baldwin. His mother died when he was an infant (in January 1933), and Harry was adopted and raised by his maternal grandparents, Archibald Alexander (Archie) McEachron and Lillian Witherell McEachron.

Due to being adopted by his maternal grandparents (after the death of his mother) a number of researchers have incorrectly listed him as her brother... rather than her son. (Please update your research.)
