Abner Taylor was born in Stokes County, North Carolina May 23,1832, the Hendricks County, Indiana in 1850. On Aug. 23, 1853 he married Edna Hodges, daughter of William Hodges and Elizabeth Hamilton. To this union were born 7 children: Charles. Margaret, Mary Antoinette Martin, William Delano, George Washington, Alice G. Burnett, and Hamilton Grant Taylor. Mr. and Mrs. Taylor spent the beginning of their married life in Hendricks, Indiana, then moving to Kansas, where he answered his call to his country, and afterward moving to Cass County Missouri in Harrisonville. In Harrisonville, they owned a farm and Abner was a Berry and fruit planter. He would sell his produce to the people of Harrisonville, MO. They moved once more to Barry County, MO near Monett and this is where Abner died. His body was taken to Kansas in the Fort Scott Cemetery, where he is laid to rest. Abner is a Veteran of the Civil War, Co E 3rd MO Cav.


Taylor Funeral Held
Old Solider Laid to Rest in National Burying Ground by His Comrades This Morning.

The body of the late Abner Taylor, whose death was chronicled in yesterday evening's issue of this paper, arrived here this morning and was taken to the Konantz undertaking parlors where a private funeral was held this morning at 10 o'clock. The service was conducted by Rev. P.B. Knepp of the Grace Methodist church, and burial was made in National Cemetery. Mr. Taylor was a veteran of the civil war and the funeral service was held under the auspices of William H. Lytle Post G.A.R. The pallbearers were Gilbert Albee, P. Tiffany, Samuel Bulger, W.T. Miller, M. Mann, and I.O. Peck, all members of the G.A.R.

Abner Taylor was born in Salem, North Carolina, May 22, 1832. When a young man he moved to Indiana, where he married Miss Edna Hodges of Hendricks county. Seven children were born to them, four of whom, with his wife, survive. These are: Mrs. John Martin of Indianappolis, Ind; Mrs. Isaac Burnett of Eldorado Springs, MO; Hamilton Grant Taylor of Forsyth, Mont, and William D. Taylor of Fort Scott.

Soon after the outbreak of the civil war he enlisted in Company E. Third Missouri voluinteer cavalry, and served to the close of the war. Once he received special mention for bravery in battle. He loved his country ardently and requested that the flag be wrapped around his body in the casket.

When a young boy he united with the Baptist church and lived a consistent Christian life. He died at West Plains, MO, January 7, 1913. His death was a Christian triumph.
