June Hutchcroft
June Hutchcroft, 92, formerly of Mediapolis, died Monday, April 30, 2001, in Las Cruces, N.M. She had been ill with pleurisy for about two weeks.
Born June 11, 1908 on a farm near Felton, Minn., she was the second daughter of Frank and Helena Koepke. She married Paul T. Hutchcroft, a rural Kossuth farmer, in March 1930. He died in 1953.
She graduated from Algona High School in 1925 and Des Moines University in 1929. She taught physical education at Mediapolis High School from 1929 to 1930.
Following her husband's death she rejoined the faculty at Mediapolis High School to teach English and mathematics. She retired in 1971.
She was a 50-year member of the First United Methodist Church of Mediapolis, serving as a Sunday school teacher and officer of many church groups. She was a former Worthy Matron of the White State Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and had been a 4-H Club leader. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Las Cruces.
She moved to New Mexico in June 1982 and lived in her own home until two years ago when she moved to an assisted living facility.
She was a collector of antique furniture and furnishings. She was an avid reader throughout her life, enjoying the challenge of crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She enjoyed learning as much as teaching, which motivated her to make many trips throughout the United States, Latin America and Europe.
Survivors include one son, Theodore "Ted" Hutchcroft of Petit Jean Mountain, Morrilton, Ark.; two daughters, Marilyn Morrison and Nancy Cox, both of Las Cruces; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.
A memorial service for Mrs. Hutchcroft will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Las Cruces.
A second memorial service will be held within a few weeks in Mediapolis with burial in Kossuth Cemetery.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Mediapolis Community Education Fund or the First United Methodist Church.
