The Avoyelles Parish Sheriff's Department confirmed Monday that Bordelon died in the Simmesport area of a gunshot wound but could provide no details. An investigation was still in progress a department spokesman said.
The funeral home listed time of death as 4 p.m. Sunday for Bordelon, who was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Violet Vead Bordelon of Simmesport; two sons, Edward Bordelon and Jeremy Bordelon, both of Simmesport; one daughter, Sandra Bordelon of Simmesport; eight brothers, Reginald Bordelon and Maxine Bordelon, both of Bordelonville, Allen Bordelon and James Bordelon, both of Hamburg, Michael Bordelon of Cottonport, Leonard Bordelon of Ponchatoula, Gerard Bordelon of St. Francisville and Bernard Bordelon of Marksville; and three sisters, Carrie Jane Bordelon and Ethylene Vead, both of New Orleans, and Brinda Juneau of Marksville.
