Rena was the older daughter of Peter Birch (1891) and Alice nee Sutherland (1894), who married in 1928. Rena married Alan Hulme in 1949 in Cheshire, England, and a year later they departed Southampton, England on the Asturia S for Melbourne. In Australia they had four children; Paul, Cheryl, Susan and Janet.

HULME. - Rena. To a most loving and giving person, I will love you always. Until we are together again Loving you - Alan.
HULME. - Rena. You will be sadly missed by more people than you ever imagined, especially your loving son Paul, daughter-in-law Deb and Grandchildren Tammy and April Words cannot describe what we all feel. Goodbye Mum.
