Sam Cascio immigrated from Italy, and became a naturalized citizen in Chicago, on Jan. 25, 1939. At the age of 29 Sam started as an employee of the Stevens Hotel on Michigan Ave., when it first opened in May 1927. In continuous employment there through the new owner, Conrad Hilton in 1945, until he passed away. He worked his way up from a lobby attendant and elevator operator until the 1970's when he became the supervisor of all porters and baggage handlers. After the Conrad Hilton Hotel was renovated in 1985, Sam continued to work there as their celebrity bellman. Before he passed away he was known as the world's oldest working bellman. In 1995 8th street received the honorary name of Sam Cascio Drive.
