Helen C. Blau, 81, of Avon, Connecticut, a former Staten Islander, died Tuesday at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington.

Born Helen Libonati in Manhattan, she lived in Concord for forty-one years before relocating to Connecticut in 2008.

She graduated from the High School for Commercial Arts in Manhattan.

Mrs. Blau worked as a secretary for American Express in Manhattan for many years, and later worked as a secretary in the shipping industry. She retired in 1990.

She was an active volunteer at her children's schools at PS 48 and PS 49 in Concord, and she was a member of the "Grub Club," a social group of friends who enjoyed dining out. She enjoyed reading and spending time with family and friends, and was a parishioner of St. Ann's R.C. Church, Dongan Hills.

Her husband, Barrett Blau, died in 1980.

Her daughter, Deborah, died in 1993.

Surviving is her son, Daniel Blau.

The funeral will be held on Monday from the Virginia Funeral Chapel, Dongan Hills, with a mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Peter's R.C. Church, New Brighton.
Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, West Brighton.
