Lawrence Tattershall, gentleman, of Odstock and his brother Peter Tattershall, gentleman, of Chideock, Dorset, sold property jointly in 1636 to George Chappell, yeoman, of Norrington, Wiltshire. In 1646 he appeared on roll of delinquents being described as "a recusant, but not in arms," alongside his uncle George Tattershall, gentleman, of Stapleford, Wiltshire. He was alive as late as 1658 when his nephew Edmund Smith, planter, of Newtown Hundred, St Mary's County, Maryland quitclaimed to his uncle Lawrence Tattershall of Odstock his rights to property in England.

He was the father of at least four children: John [see below], Sarah Tattershall [Lady of Sarum Manor in Newport Hundred, Charles County, Maryland; immigrated 1648 with her husband John Pile, gentleman], Mary Tattershall [wife successively of John Jarboe (d. 1674) and Stephen Gough (d. 1700), both of Newtown Hundred, St Mary's County, Maryland], and William Tattershall, gentleman (c.1637-1674) of Bretton's Bay, St Mary's County, Maryland, who married Anne Lewger, daughter of John Lewger, chaplain to Cecilius, Lord Baltimore.

Lawrence was a son of Edmund Tattershall, gentleman (d. 1631-36), of Brook (in Bramshaw), Hampshire, and de jure uxoris of Blakes (in Wargrave), Berkshire, by his first wife Katherine Berington, daughter of Thomas Berington and Joan Weir.

Grandson of Anne Welles [a recusant who was alive as late as 1586; sister of the Roman Catholic martyr Swithun Welles], by her second husband George Tattershall (d. by 1586).

Great-grandson of Mary Mompesson [co-heiress of her brother Edmund Mompesson of Bathampton in 1556], who married Thomas Welles, esquire, of Twyford and Brambridge, Hampshire.

Great-great-grandson of John Mompesson, esquire, of Bathampton, by his wife Alice Leigh.

[Lawrence's brother Peter (mentioned above) was the father of Clement Tattershall, gent., of Paignton, Henry Tattershall, gent., of Paignton, and Lawrence Tattershall, gent., of Weston in Berry-Pomeroy; all convicted recusants. By his wife Penelope Constable, Lawrence of Weston was the father of Peter Tattershall, an alumnus of the English College at Lisbon in 1715.]
