Bio information:
The eldest daughter of Lyman John Lee and his first wife, Harriet "Hattie" Eaton, Margaret Lee is remembered as a woman of compassion, intelligence, and resilience by the generations that follow her.

Her life's path was not a smooth one, and she was required to confront the pain of loss and the challenge of adapting to change from an early age.

One such hardship was life defining, and visited Margaret and her siblings while they were yet tender in years: their mother, Hattie became lost to them, first through an illness which required her hospitalization, and eventually through death.

In addition to experiencing the grief of losing her mother, Margaret essentially found herself required to begin her life anew in every aspect, as she was sent away from her home and family in Illinois to be cared for by relatives in New York State. This had a deep impact upon Margaret's life, but despite the separation she remained very loyal to her family, especially her little sister, Lydia Lee. Their eventual reunion in adulthood was a joyful one, and the sisters were devoted to one another.

Margaret was a nursing school graduate; a level of achievement and education which was rare for women of her day. She was married twice: her first husband was Charles Shaw of Pennsylvania, who died 28 February 1943. Nearly six months later, on 6 August 1943, Margaret exchanged her widow's weeds for a bridal veil, and was married to her second husband, Christopher Robert William Suggett, known in her family as "Bob".

She remained childless until her 28th year, when motherhood through adoption came as a silver lining that illuminated the dark cloud of her sister's death. In February of 1927, Margaret's much beloved sister Lydia died at the age of 31, after an extended illness. She left behind a husband and four children, whose depleted economic and emotional reserves left them vulnerable, and in a dire state of crisis.

Margaret took in Lydia's 9-year-old daughter, Mildred Almina Rosberg, and brought her up as her own. She was also a strong presence and matriarchal figure in the lives of Lydia's other children, as the many photos, letters, and visits over the years attest. "Aunt Margaret" remained their steadfast and secure link to their mother's memory and to the wider Lee family for a generation. She was much loved, and is remembered with great respect and gratitude to this day.
