John Griswold

Son of Jeremiah, John³, Jacob², Michael¹ Griswold John, b. in New Milford, Conn., June 29, 1758; m. in Litchfield, Conn., Aug. 23, 1782, Rhoda Wetmore, b. Dec. 25, 1765, daughter of David and Sarah Wetmore.
John was a farmer. Severed in the Revolution, Private, with Capt. David Welsh; later with Capt. Jonathan Wright; Enl. Aug. 1776, with Capt. Amos Barnes; marched from Litchfield to New York, and joined Col. Sheldon's Regiment. Severed as guard during the Battle of Long Island. Drafted Aug. 1777. Marched to Albany, Half Moon and Bemis Heights. Took part in the Battle where Burgoyne surrendered and was slightly wounded. His inscription "Lieut. John, b. June 29, 1758; d. Dec. 22, 1847. A Soldier of the American Revolution".
