June Marie Bender (Mrs. Louis C. Bender) passed away peacefully in her sleep August 17, 1997 at Kittitas Valley Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Ellensburg on June 9, 1927, the daughter of Samuel Molotte and Alice (Jordan) Molotte. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis, in August 1982, and brothers, Allen, Harry, Rich, and Elmer.

She married Louis C. Bender, Jr., on February 15, 1948. Together, they owned and operated the Horsehoe Cigar Store until its sale in 1971. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, and trips to Reno, Nevada. She was always there to help others.

She is survived by her daughters Gwen (Les) Sorenson and Gayle (Mike) Bender-Uhl of Ellensburg, and two stepdaughters, Donna Tharp and Janis Mullen of Spokane. She is also survived by grandchildren Ron Taylor, Jr. (Sumner), Todd Tharp (Marysville), Kelly Evavold (Longview), Bryan Tharp (Spokane), Wendy Main (Renton), Doug Sorenson (Ellensburg), Bradey Mullen (Spokane), Jason Sorenson (Ellensburg), eight great grandchildren and brother Ken Molotte and his wife Bev of Renton.

An informal memorial is being planned for Saturday, August 23, at 1 p.m. at the Eagles Lodge in Ellensburg. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to Life Support Fund, c/o Ellensburg Fire Department, 102 N. Pearl, Ellensburg, WA 98926, or to Kittitas Valley Rehabilitation Center, c/o Michelle (for social activities and gazebo in the Lamplighter Wing), 1050 E. Mt. View Ave., Ellensburg, WA 98926.

The family of June M. Bender (Mrs. Louis) would like to than Jean Yoder, Dr. Johnson, and the staff at Kittitas Valley Rehabilitation Center Lamplighter Wing for their patience, understanding and special care. She enjoyed the many visits from friends and family during her stay.

The family says, "A very special thank you to Dana Cole. You made this difficult time more understandable and bearable for us all. We don't know what we would have done without you. We thank you all for making this difficult time for her more bearable."
