On the 1841 and '51 census William is listed as a silk ribbon weaver, living with his family in the village of Shilton, Warwickshire. By 1852 William and his family had moved to Stoke (now an area within Coventry).
As well as being a weaver, William was the Attendence Officer on the School Board, and also the Parish Clerk at St. Michael's Church, Stoke, Coventry from 1852 until his death. By 1901 his son, Alfred, had taken over as Parish Clerk at St. Michael's.
William was widowed when Jane died in 1878.
William died aged 71.
