Born Asie Krinsky, in Minsk, he emigrated to America in 1883. At the turn of the century he changed his name to Arie, and the family name to Crown. Arie worked in the clothing industry as a mechanic, maintaining and repairing garment manufacturing equipment. He and his wife Ida, raised a family of successful businessmen. They grew up to never forgot their past, and because of their generous philanthropy, many locations and facilities in the Chicago area are named in their honor, including The Arie Crown Theater, Arie Crown Hebrew Day School, Ida Crown Jewish Academy, and Arie Crown forest preserve.
