Smith Rites are Set

Rudyard area teacher, Mrs. Morris (Esther) Smith, 60 died at her home in Rudyard Sunday, April 21.
Mrs. Smith was born Oct. 13, 1913, in Havre. She attended Rudyard schools, and received a lifetime certificate from Northern Montana College. For five years she taught in rural and Rudyard schools.
On June 21, 1941, in Great Falls, she married Morris Smith, the couple farmed and ranched north of Rudyard. In 1966 Mrs. Smith resumed teaching at Oreana, a rural school north of Rudyard, where she continued to teach until 1971.
Mrs. Smith was a Lutheran Bible school superintendent for nearly 20 years, a Sunday school teacher and superintendent for 15 years, and a Luther League advisor for 11 years. She was an active ALCW and circle member. Mrs. Smith also served as a 4-H leader for 15 years, holding county, district, and state offices and counseling at camps and state congress. She served on the Hill County Beaver Creek Park Board.
She is survived by her husband; sons, Stanley of Minneapolis, Minn., and Stuard of Rudyard; a daughter, Mrs. Bill (Sharon) Spicher, Hingham; sisters, Mrs. Ruth Patrick, Rudyard, Mrs. Carmen Roik, Fulton, N.Y.; and a brother, Arnold Goldberg, Rudyard. One brother preceded her in death.
