One of two daughters of George and Helen Lewis, she was born February 7, 1922 in Woodbury, NJ.
After graduating from Westhampton College in 1943, she taught school at Dumbarton Elementary. Later she taught pre-school at the Jewish Community Center and at Greenwood Country Day School in Brandermill.
She was predeceased by a son, Dr. Robert Goodman.
She is survived by her husband and two children, Winnie Fratkin (Barry) and Michael Goodman (Julie); daughter-in-law, Denise Goodman Keil; and sister, Naomi Policoff of Berkeley, CA; seven grandchildren, Bryan Fratkin (Erin) of Richmond, Amy Oelschlager (Keith) of Denver, CO, Benjamin Goodman (Erin McGavin) of Melbourne, Australia, Emily Goodman of New York City, Daniel Goodman of Brooklyn, Laura Goodman of New York City, and Samantha Goodman of Richmond; and five great- granddaughters, Molly, Juliet, Rose and Genevieve Fratkin all of Richmond; and Allie Oelschlager of Denver.
Harriett was active in the Richmond Chapter of the National Council of Jewish Women and was a past president of the Women's Auxiliary of the Richmond Academy of Medicine. She was a member of Congregation Beth Ahabah and Jefferson Lakeside Country Club.
She enjoyed golfing, gardening, writing and was an avid reader.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Parkside of Beth Sholom Home for their exceptional care and attention.
The funeral was held at Bliley's - Central, 3801 Augusta Avenue, at 2pm on Monday, July 29, 2013, with burial at Hebrew Cemetery.
